Vitesse intros IP cores for consumer, enterprise and industrial apps

USA: Vitesse Semiconductor Corp. announced a portfolio of Gigabit Ethernet (GE) intellectual property (IP) cores for simple and efficient integration of Gigabit switch functionality into Ethernet IC solutions for consumer electronics, gaming, printers, smart grid, industrial and other applications.

Ethernet is the most broadly deployed networking technology in the world. According to Cisco’s Visual Networking Index, global Internet traffic will quadruple from 2010 to 2015 with video comprising 62 percent of all consumer Internet traffic in 2015. Further, mobile video is expected to increase 16-fold between 2012 and 2017, accounting for over two-thirds of the world’s mobile data traffic by the end of 2017.

Vitesse’s latest IP cores deliver essential features in consumer and professional audio/video markets where Ethernet networking connectivity is used to deliver digital information, such as audio or video data, directly to end points in performance-sensitive applications. The cores also support the IEEE 802.3az Energy Efficient Ethernet standard for low-power networking designs.

“Ubiquitous Ethernet connectivity is becoming a reality, from multi-player gaming and on-demand video in home entertainment consoles, to smart grid and industrial applications,” said Brian Jaroszewski, senior product marketing manager at Vitesse. “Broadening Vitesse’s IP core portfolio strategically aligns with our goal to grow licensing opportunities and expand our footprint into high-volume, adjacent markets.”
